Tahira Kashyap, the wife of Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana had a very important message to share with us all on the world cancer day. An aspiring director herself, she shared with us her struggles against the deadly disease cancer, how she fought it vigilantly and never laid down her arms to it!
“I practice Nichren Buddhism. It has taught me that you have to be mentally strong. It has an impact on your physical being. It (cancer) was a minor frustration for me. But I accepted it truly. I decided that I will not live in denial and hide it from the world,” says Tahira,
Just recently today, Tahira shared with us a picture of herself, one which must be extremely personal, which showed us a scar from her mastectomy, performed last year. But that was not what particularly caught our eyes, it was the caption which took us off guard.
Today is my day!Wish you all a happy #worldcancerday with the hope to celebrate it in an embracing way❤️These scars are my badges of honour. It was tough but this picture was my decision as I want to celebrate not the disease but the spirit with which I endured.📸 @atulkasbekar pic.twitter.com/r6I5M5D3ru

She called the scars her “badges of honour” and well, you certainly stole the day with your positive attitude!
Tahira was detected with DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ) with high grade malignant cells last year and had to undergo a surgery where her left breast was removed. However, unlike most patients, she decided to take the disease head on and fight against it.
“I agree that cancer scares you and throws you off but I wanted to change that. I wanted to give hope and faith. I don’t want cancer to be associated with something very negative,” she says.
In an interview with Anupama Chopra on the “World Cancer Day”, Tahira also told us how having her head shaved feels “liberating” in a way. She also couldn’t stop gushing about how her husband has been always there for her through those bleak times, a fact which is reflected by Ayushmann Khurrana’s post saying:
“Your scars are beautiful. You are a trailblazer.”
Here’s a link to the entire interview.
Thankyou Tahira for spreading this much-needed positive attitude in the world. We wish you and your family all the very best for your future!!
